MUSIC

For more information about the Subject curriculum, please contact: Mr. Rob Weir the Media Curriculum Leader.

Intent

Our music curriculum provides a creative and therapeutic outlet for pupils facing social, emotional, and mental health challenges. Delivered through Media, it supports self-expression, confidence, and key life skills, helping pupils re-engage with learning in a meaningful way.

Implementation

KS3 pupils access one hour of music per week through Media lessons. Using a flexible, student-led approach, sessions include digital composition, music-making, and listening activities. Technology and contemporary music are used to boost engagement, with opportunities for enrichment through external partnerships. Pupils are supported by Lancashire Music services to broaden pupil experiences with music both within and outside the classroom.

Impact

Music has a positive impact on wellbeing, behaviour, and engagement. Pupils gain confidence, improve communication, and take pride in their creative achievements. The programme supports personal growth and prepares pupils for reintegration or progression to further education.
